Excellent location. Friendly pleasant staff.
Allocated room very small although when we asked for a larger room we were given the choice of two.
However we were not notified that there was a live band performing directly above our room that evening which was followed by a disco which went on until 12.30am. After several phone calls to reception about our inability to sleep we were given another room so we could get some sleep.
The following morning we were greeted by the management who was very apologetic and offered a complimentary stay at the hotel. We have accepted the offer but our weekend was spoilt.

Tip: Avoid room 415 when there's a function .

Nice room once we upgraded.
Rooms very small, and the one we were allocated was very noisey. We choose to upgrade, and although the room was very nice it was next to what sounded like the caretakers office. He had the loudest voice you could imagine, we have full details the work that is due to be carried out!
This included the upgrading of one kitchen hence they had a VERY limited menu. We should have been advised of this beforehand as it also meant the breakfast was not buffet style - we have to wait ages for it to be cooked, then it arrived burnt!

Tip: Upgrade

Our favourite bit was the coal fire and afternoon tea when we arrived.
the pool was a nice bonus but in need of a revamp.
The Bed! it was one of the most uncomfortable beds i have even slept in, and for two night! we both woke a lot during the night and woke with aching backs both morning!
lack of info on the hotel website re the treatments and hairdressers meant we couldnt plan was well as we would have like.

Tip: Get the contact details for the beautician and hairdressers, you need to book in advance and check how hard your mattress is before you unpack!

Although in need of some decoration the room was large and clean. The en-suite was huge (room 2. ) Staff were helpful and attentive.
Shower not electric so temperature varies depending on who else is using it in other rooms.

Please make it clear on arrival that if you don't put some sort of credit/debit card behind reception at arrival you won't be able to use the bar after hours or order any type of room service at all..! This totally spoilt our stay :-(, crazy thing was, we would of happily given our card on arrival but paid cash and nobody said that would be a problem at a later time for anything else :-(
